Description

Another of my attempts to recreate a character from 'My little Pony: Friendship is Magic' in the superhero online game called 'DC Universe Online'.

Celestia groaned as she slowly opened her eyes. What happened to her? The last thing she remembered was arriving in Metropolis after getting Twilight's urgent message of King Sombra returning. Not wanting to have her faithful student face the danger all by herself, she was determined to help. Luna insisted on coming along, of course. After all, together, they defeated Sombra before. But right after crossing the border between worlds, she felt something pointy hitting her in the neck, heard Luna's surprised gasp... and then there was nothing.

Now that she came back to her senses, she found herself in a big, sterile room filled with humming machinery and white-coated ponies. As for herself, she was lying in some sort of cage with shimmering bars of energy surrounding her.

"What is the meaning of this?" she shouted as she got to her feet. "What are you doing? I demand you to release me at once!"

None of the humans were paying any attention to her, however. They were completely focussed on their work. One pony was staring at a computer screen. "Solar energy output increased by 200 percent. Batteries are charged to maximum."

"Energy field is secure and stable," another one nodded. "Mr. Luthor, you can come in."

A door opened and a bald stallion came in, followed by a pony that looked very familiar to Celestia. Even though he didn't have a tail and hooves before, she would always recognize that mask and his weaponry. "You!"

Deathstroke smirked under his mask. "I knew I would see you again. Surprised, bitch? I always get my prey, you know? Sooner or later."

"But... how did you...?"

"A new mutagenic drug created in my labs," the bald stallion stated. "Not very effective on normal humans... or ponies... but perfectly designed to knock out creatures that emit high level energy. And this force field? It was built using Apokoliptian machinery. It is said Darkseid himself once wanted to use such a cage to trap Superman." He approached the cage with a calm expression on his face. "You thought you would be safe? You thought you are powerful enough that you can do whatever you please? Well, there is a limit to everything a living being can do. It's all about finding those limits. Did you know that Superman, one of the most dangerous aliens I have ever met in my life, becomes as weak as a newborn when exposed to a small, green, glowing rock?" He snickered. "You are as arrogant as him. You come here to our world, think your powers give you the right to do with us what you want and then leave again with no repercussions? I think not."

Celestia gritted her teeth. As much as she hated to admit it, this person had her trapped. "Who... are you?" she asked.

"Lex Luthor. Maybe you heard of me. Metropolis belongs to me. Just as Earth belongs to humanity. As for you, everyone who watches the news these days should recognize you. Just don't expect me to address you by your former title, Celestia. Alien creatures who come here to infest our planet, infiltrate humanity, I have no respect for."

"What is it you want?" Celestia asked coldly. "Do you wish my death? Go ahead and try, Luthor... beings more ancient and powerful than you have tried, and failed."

"So arrogant..." Lex sighed. "No magic is so powerful that it can't be countered by technology and science. Take this cage, for example: It's being powered by the solar energy you are emitting. As long as your power doesn't run out, the force field won't shut down. But you really don't have any idea why I brought you here, do you?" He pointed at a screen which showed the chaotic battle in Metropolis between the escaping villains from Stryker's, the mechanical servants of Brainiac, the Justice League and the Equestrian allies. "See this? This is your fault. Our society is being thrown in chaos because you equines failed to contain one of your own. All of humanity, forcefully shaped into these... grotesque forms!" He gestured at his own body. "Mayhem and panic on the streets... with every passing hour, control slips further from my grasp."

"I did not know about King Sombra's return until two hours ago," Celestia said. "And to your information, I came here to put a stop to this. Release me, and Sombra will be defeated before the sun sets."

"And after that? I assume you just go on your merry way, allowing your kind to roam the streets. Let me make myself perfectly clear: I want you... PONIES... out of my town! I've always watched with disgust when I saw you spread through this town like a disease, poisoning the minds of hard-working humans with your nonsensical spouts of... FRIENDSHIP and the like. Once this Sombra is taken care of, your followers will have no other choice to leave. Otherwise... they will lose their precious princess."

Celestia glared at him. "You wouldn't dare!"

"Oh, of course he wouldn't," Deathstroke snickered. "Luthor never does the dirty work himself. Why do you think he paid me to do the job? I put you in your place, pony... I could have easily killed you back then. But a contract is a contract, so I brought you here. And guess what? I'll be glad to be the one who pulls the trigger when Luthor gives the word."

"You will never get away with this!" Celestia was fuming. "My sister will find out where I am and then you will wish you never..."

"Oh, that's right," Lex interrupted her. "That sister of yours... Luna, was it? Well, it's a shame I don't have enough equipment to contain two of your kind. But that's why it pays off to have connections, right? Circe was more than happy to help me by containing your sister. What do you do when science and technology are not enough to hold an alicorn?" He smirked. "You put her in the care of another alicorn."

At the other end of town, Luna was struggling against the chains that were binding her. Usually, she would have been easily able to tear any chain apart with her magic... but these chains were enchanted by the goddess of magic herself.

Circe chuckled smugly as she watched Luna's feeble attempt to escape. "Isn't this cute? The little moon horse thinks she can escape. Don't even bother... I've fought gods long before you even set foot in this world. Now... if you don't want to feel neverending pain for the rest of your life, you will turn me back to my glorious self!"

Luna grimaced. "I... can't help you. Sombra created this spell. Do cancel it, he must be defeated first."

"You're lying!" Circe shouted. "He is one of yours, so you must know a counterspell. Tell me now how to do it, I command you!"

Luna turned her head away from her with a disdainful snort.

Circe smirked. "I thought you would be rebellious. Oh well, I have my ways to make you talk." She then trotted over to a small, jeweled case sitting on a table next to her. Using her magic, she opened it and levitated a small, black crystal outside. "Do you know what this is, horse? No? Let me assure you, if I told you just what I am holding here, what it can do and what I intend to do with it... you would be shaking in your little horseshoes. Now hold still, this won't hurt at all..." Slowly, she approached the bound princess of the night.

At the same time, a dynamic duo was entering Circe's hidden stronghold, unannounced.

"See, Daddy?" Screw Loose shouted excitedly as she bounced around. "I Knew I'd find it. It's in here. Are you proud of me, huh? Huh?"

Discord smiled as he petted her head. "Yes, well done. You are a good girl. Now let's find that dangerous thing before the brat who calls herself a goddess makes a mistake she'd never forget..."

"Hey!" a half-equine bestiamorph with the head of a rhino snorted as Discord and Screw Loose walked along the corridors. "Trespassers! How did you get in here? This is the sacred temple of the goddess Circe!"

"Down, Fido! The grownups are busy," Discord yawned as he snapped his fingers. A puff of smoke, and the bestiamorph found himself sitting in a basket, bound and gagged with a giant pink ribbon. Satisfied, Discord kept on walking. "Come along now, Screw Loose, I think it's not much farther ahead."

Screw Loose happily bounced after her daddy, but when they passed a certain door, she stopped to look inside. In the room behind the door, she found a muscular man sitting in front of a prison cell, which contained a wrinkled old lady.

"I'm tellin ya, when my grandkids show up, then y'all be sorry fer puttin me in here, ya rascals," Granny Smith snapped.

Iron Will groaned. "Listen here, granny... Iron Will can't help you. He was hired by Circe to do a little confidence training for her troops, nothing more. But as soon as Iron Will wanted to gather his money and leave, she forced him to sign a contract that bound Iron Will to her... well, will. It's very disconcerting for a minotaur to be in such a moral dilemma, you see? After all, I was supposed to be in Baltimare next weekend. The ponies there are waiting to see my seminar."

Screw Loose came bouncing in. "Heya!" she grinned. "Watcha doing?"

Iron Will and Granny Smith both blinked in surprise when the purple-haired girl with the crazy expression appeared before them. "Uh... who are you supposed to be?" Iron Will finally muttered.

Meanwhile, Discord had reached Circe's throne room. The guards were no trouble at all for him... at the moment, they were trying to get out of the tiny birdcages he stuck them in. He noticed that Screw Loose wasn't behind him anymore, but he wasn't very worried about her.

"She's a being made of pure chaos, there isn't much that can actually harm her," he thought to himself. "Now, where is that black diamond..."

When he opened the door, he realized that he had not arrived a moment too soon. He knew there had always been the danger that Luna might be exposed to it every time she entered this realm, but he had never guessed that she would be in this stronghold at this very moment, being held captive by the very goddess who held the black diamond in her possession.

"Oh no..." he whispered. "I told them... I told them that staying in this world would be too dangerous, but would they listen to old Discord? Nooooo..." In a desperate attempt to stop Circe, he teleported himself right next to her and made a move that seemed to be almost too mundane and simple to be performed by an entity as old and powerful as him:

He slapped the goddess in the face just as she was about to levitate the black diamond towards Luna.

Circe gasped in surprise and outrage. "Who is this man? Where did he come from? How was he able to enter my sanctuary unnoticed? How dare he to slap a goddess in the face?"

"I'm awfully sorry, little girl, but playtime's over!" Discord said as he glared at her. "Be thankful I came here to stop you from meddling with powers that are far beyond your comprehension."

"Powers beyond MY comprehension?" The alicorn let out a barking laugh. "Fool... I am the goddess of magic! I know everything there is to know about supernatural powers in this universe. I've studied this crystal for eons and I know more than any mortal would know."

"Are you finished?" Discord sighed. "Seriously, Tia was just as full of herself as a filly as you are. Now try to stop the egomaniac route for just a couple of minutes and you might understand that I am not here for the crystal. Well yes, technically I am, but he's not the main problem here. The problem is there, sitting on the floor of your living room!" And he pointed at the equally confused Luna.

"Discord, what... what are you doing here? What are you talking about?"

"Ever heard of the name 'Eclipso', dearest Luna?" Discord asked. "I didn't think so. It's a being almost as old as I am... maybe even older. He... or rather, part of him, is entrapped in that tiny crystal. Now, Eclipso himself is not really the problem here. Not as long as he's not at the peak of his power. But more problematic is what he could awaken within you. Now, where is that crystal? I need to get rid of it."

"Impudent mortal! Do you believe I would ever allow you to leave this mmmmmmph! Mmmmmmpphhh!" Circe struggled against the duct tape that had suddenly appeared over her lips.

"Finally, some quiet. Now, for that crystal..."

The black crystal had slipped out of Circe's telekinetic grasp as soon as she was slapped by Discord. It had rolled across the floor, to the door on the other side of the room. A door which was now opened by a young woman wearing a sorcerer's hat. "Mistress Circe? I heard some voices and... huh? Wh-what is going on here?"

Circe managed to rip the duct tape from her mouth. "Apprentice! Quick! Take that crystal to your feet, and all mishaps will be forgiven!"

Trixie blinked in confusion as she picked the crystal up. "You mean this?"

"NO!" Discord shouted as he reached out with his hand. But it was too late.

Trixie stumbled across some rubble that was still lying around from when Circe blasted some of the pillars apart in her fit of rage. With a surprised squeak, she fell face-first to the ground, the black crystal flew out of her hand, right into Luna's lap...

And then the whole room was filled with a dark vortex, a chaotic maelstrom of unbound, magical powers that came streaming out of the princess of the night. Luna's eyes were gleaming as bright as the moon itself. She let out a scream as her body and changed. For a moment, a sinister dark figure could be seen in the middle of the darkness, and a menacing laughter filled the room.

And then, an enormous explosion destroyed the walls of Circe's temple. Surrounded by a corona of dark magic, a winged figure slowly rose out of the ruins, up into the skies of Metropolis.

"I HAVE RETURNED!" the woman with the black as night wings and the menacing armor shouted in a booming voice. "Tremble, before the REAL ruler of the night. Now, the night will truly last forever... under the rule of NIGHTMARE MOON!"

Discord groaned. "We are so fucked..."

I never liked the idea of Nightmare Moon being some kind of alien parasite opposed to being Luna's darkside.
